The evaluation VM is a ready-made virtual machine with Octotor already installed, free for one year for up to ten assets. This video goes from the download to your first login, then the first setup steps: a customer, the credentials Octotor signs in with, and your first computer.

How it worksthree steps
Step 1
Register

Fill in the form below with your name, your email address and your company.

Step 2
Download

Download the virtual machine file for your platform. The Hyper-V file is about 7 GB, the VMware and VirtualBox file about 2.6 GB.

Step 3
Start

Create a virtual machine from the downloaded file on Hyper-V, VMware or VirtualBox and start it. The screen of the virtual machine shows the web address and the login.

What you get
  • OctotorYou get the current Octotor release, Community edition. It is installed the same way a customer installs it.
  • LicenseThe virtual machine comes with a Community Plus license that is valid for one year. It unlocks every feature and every connector: directory sync, Microsoft 365, backup monitoring, switches, firewalls, alerts, automation and the AI assistant with your own API key.
  • AssetsYou can add up to 10 assets. An asset is a computer, a user or a network device.
  • Ready-made setupSeven scheduled tasks and four alert rules are already set up. They collect information from the computers you add, and they alert you about failed logons, low disk space and slow switch ports. You can change or delete them.
  • LoginsThe web login is admin / octotor. The console login is octotor / octotor.
  • UpgradesOne command upgrades the virtual machine to a new Octotor version. Your data is kept.
What you need
  • VirtualizationYou need one of these: Hyper-V on Windows 11 Pro or Windows Server, VMware Workstation or ESXi, or VirtualBox.
  • ProcessorsThe virtual machine needs 2 virtual processors.
  • MemoryThe virtual machine needs at least 4 GB of memory. We recommend 8 GB.
  • Disk spaceYou need at least 20 GB of free space on the drive where you keep the virtual machine. We recommend 40 GB. The virtual machine grows as Octotor collects data.
  • NetworkThe virtual machine must be connected to a network that has a DHCP server. It gets its address from that server. If you prefer a fixed address, you can set one later: log in on the console of the virtual machine with the login shown on its screen and change the network settings. The download page explains how.
  • TimeThe whole process takes about fifteen minutes, from the download to your first login.
